Our Story

Know the Founder

An ex investment banker, daughter of a trained artist, keen traveler, golfer, beach, art and design lover, active mother of two, and alumnae of Wellesley and the Indian School of Business, Anjali Patel Mehta founded Verandah out of the need to find customised, boho-luxe, chic, fuss-free, travel and unique transitional summer separates made, using ultra soft and artisanal fabrics and hand work from India. All of that without any formal training in fashion and life spent between Mumbai and New York. Her mission today is to create a joyful Indian luxury label inspired by the sights, smells, and contours of her land presented in a contemporary fashion.

is a feeling

Verandah is a Butterfly Mark certified conscious luxury travel brand retailing among the best luxury resort wear space with design roots strongly based in India, bearing a unique signature style in story based hand illustrated prints, fine embroideries and sustainable fabrics, across resort, ready to wear, swimwear and lifestyle.

At Verandah

We create more than just fashionable pieces....

Strong principles of circular design and partnering with the best to achieve it, is always the real goal. Created by Anjali Patel Mehta, Verandah was born while she was on a break from a decade long career in Investment Banking; while looking for colourful chic resort and lounge wear to enjoy her stay in. Today Verandah stocks at Department and Specialty stores at the likes of Bergdorf Goodman, Printemps, Eden Rock, Everything But Water and other premium retailers across the world. We are also available at luxury hotel properties such as Soneva Jani, the Six Senses in Oman, The Dunmore in Harbour Island, Rockhouse and select Four Seasons hotels. Our lines have been showcased at Lakme Fashion week and we participate in leading trade showrooms across Miami, New York and Paris.

Our Heritage

While each piece at Verandah tells a story, each collection has been inspired by one as well. The T-91 collection has, for example, has been inspired by a chance sighting of a Ranthambore tiger that went missing. This spurred Anjali to a create collection that would spread awareness on poaching and get involved with Tiger Watch. The Jaisalmer collection was inspired by the memories of a trip to the desert city when she was a child. The Asian Court collection takes inspiration from the trees, animals, architecture and mosaics that make up the actual Verandah of her ancestral home. The most recent launch, Anjuna, is inspired by the architecture and tropical beauty of Goa where she lived in lockdown. Likewise, there is a story behind every thread.

Our People

To us, our culture is key. We believe that when people are happy, they create better, and aspire to better things. Our first tailor, Deepak Jadav, joined us in 2015. He is a cutting master today. Growing together is a part of our ethos. We have tried everything possible to up-skill our artisans and make them independent. With a growth mindset, we have partnered with zero waste global manufacturer out of India that is fair trade compliant, and employs more women than men. Our swim is produced in Italy at small batch luxury factory partner, along the east coast. To add to that through the fashion fund raiser, Baradari project, we help support artisans, weavers and embroiderers, our fellow artists, our baradari. We currently support the weavers in Phulia West Bengal as part of the project, to produce the finest hand-spun Bengal muslin for our collections.
